What is Public School Open Enrollment?
Wisconsin’s inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they reside.
Who can apply for open enrollment?
Any Wisconsin resident in 4K to Grade 12 may apply to attend a nonresident school district under the open enrollment program. However, a child may transfer to a nonresident school district for early childhood education or 4K only if the child’s resident school district offers the same type of program and only if the child is eligible for that program in the resident school district.
Do I need to apply for my children already attending under open enrollment?
No. Pupils who are already open enrolled based on either regular application or an alternative application do NOT need to reapply each year to attend Clear Lake School District.
How and when do parents apply for open enrollment for their child?
The open enrollment application period is open each year from the beginning of February through the end of April. (Specific dates vary by year and are found on the DPI website.)
Online application can be completed by visiting the DPI Open Enrollment website at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment.
What is the alternative application process?
An alternative application procedure allows pupils to apply for open enrollment at any time during a school year if certain criteria are met. For additional information, please visit https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment.
